Changes That Are Made to File Types Check Boxes in Windows Media Player Are Not Saved (306715)

SYMPTOMS

After you click to select or clear one or more of the check boxes on the Files Types tab in Windows Media Player and click OK, your changes may be lost.

CAUSE

This problem can occur for either of the following reasons:
  • You are not logged on as an administrator. File associations cannot be altered by non-administrators.
  • You are running a third-party program that has taken control of one or more file associations.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue if you are running a third-party program that has taken control of one or more file associations, view the documentation that is included with your program.

To work around this problem if you are not logged on as an administrator, log off, and then log on as an administrator to make the changes.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
