PRB: Memory Is Exhausted by Requests to GetLicenseFromURL (306436)

SYMPTOMS

When Microsoft Internet Explorer clients use the Windows Media Player 7.0 ActiveX control to access multimedia content on a Web site, system memory use may be exhausted and CPU utilization may spike.

CAUSE

These problems occur when the Windows Media Player 7.0 ActiveX control attempts to process malformed requests to GetLicenseFromURL or GetLicenseFromURLAsync.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem on the server, correct the URL passed to GetLicenseFromURL or GetLicenseFromURLAsync.

To worked around this problem on the client, close the browser or navigate away from the page in question.
