This article was previously published under Q306217

SYMPTOMS

When you view the System Restore properties, your drives may be duplicated. Some of the drives may be displayed with a status of "Monitoring" and some as may display a status of "Offline". For example, if you have your drive divided into two partitions, C and D, there may be two instances of the drives, one with the status of "Monitoring" and two with the status of "Offline".

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you convert the disk from a Basic disk to a Dynamic disk.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, turn System Restore off, and then turn System Restore back on again:
  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the System Restore tab, click to select the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box, and then click Apply.
  3. Click to clear the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box, and then click OK.
After you follow these steps, the list of drives in System Restore properties is refreshed and the duplicate instances of drives that are marked with the "Offline" status are removed. However, when you do this all restore points that you have created are removed. When you turn on System Restore again, note checkpoints are automatically created.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
