When performing a clean installation of Windows XP, you may experience one of the following symptoms during the text-mode portion of Setup:
- You may receive a "STOP 0x0000007f" error message.
- The Welcome screen may appear, and your computer may then turn off.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the BIOS notifies the system that your computer is too hot to run.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, update to the latest BIOS revision from your hardware manufacturer.
To work around this issue, when you see the option to press F6 during Setup, press F7 instead to select the particular Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) to install. This prevents your computer from using the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) HAL, and instead it uses a standard HAL.
