Windows 2000 DVD-ROM Drive Cannot Read Windows XP-Formatted FAT32 DVD-RAM Media (304841)

SYMPTOMS

After you format a DVD-RAM media to the FAT32 file system and you then write files to it by using a DVD-RAM drive in Windows XP, you may be unable to read the RAM media in Windows 2000 by using a DVD-ROM drive. You may receive one of the following error messages:
Drive not accessible
or
Insert media
Note that this behavior occurs only in Windows 2000; you can read the media in Windows 98.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows 2000 does not support DVD-RAM media that uses the FAT32 file system.
