Protected System Files May Be Displayed Even If the Option Is Disabled (304715)

After you upgrade your computer, you may be able to view protected operating system files even if you select the option to hide protected operating system files under the following conditions:
- If you upgrade from Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Professional
-or- - If you upgrade from Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) to Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition
CAUSE
This problem occurs only if you select the Hide protected operating system files option before you upgrade. The Hide protected operating system files option is selected by default in the Windows XP and Windows .NET Setup procedure; however, during the upgrade, the setting to hide the protected operating system files are not migrated.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem:
- Double-click My Computer on your desktop.
- On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
- Click the View tab, and then click to select the Hide protected operating system files check box to hide the protected operating system files.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
