PRB: Property Definition Default Property Not Used If Property Not Set Explicitly (304342)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server SP1

This article was previously published under Q304342

SYMPTOMS

When creating a property definition item, you may want to set the urn:schemas-microsoft-com:exch-data:default property to a value, and expect that this value will be used if the property is not set explicitly. However, after you create an item with its content-class set to a content-class definition that refers to this property, the property value on the item is not filled with the default value as specified in the property definition.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. The urn:schemas-microsoft-com:exch-data:default property is not honored by the server when you create an item. It can be used by a schema-aware client when setting the value for the property.
