PUB2000: How to Print Spot Colors (302858)

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Publisher, you can print a publication as a process-color or spot-color publication. If you choose the process-color method, Publisher converts all colors in text, graphics, and other objects into cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK) values, and then prints four plates, regardless of the color model originally used to create the colors.

If you choose the spot-color method, Publisher converts all colors to tints of the selected spot color or colors, and then prints a plate for black as well as a plate for each spot color. Publisher does not support the combining of the process-color and spot-color methods in the same publication.

How to Set Up a Publication for Spot-Color Commercial Printing

On the Tools menu, point to Commercial Printing Tools, and then click Color Printing.
In the Print all colors as box, click Spot color(s), and then click Change Spot Color.
In the Choose Spot Color dialog box, click the drop-down arrow next to Spot color 1, and then choose the color that you want.
To choose a color that is not currently used in the publication, click More Colors, choose the color that you want, and then click OK.

To specify a custom color, click All colors, choose the color that you want, and then click OK.
To choose a second spot color, click to select the check box to the left of Spot color 2, click the drop-down arrow to the right, and then click the color that you want as the second spot color.
Click OK twice.NOTE: If you choose black plus one spot color, Publisher converts all colors in your publication except for black to tints of the spot color. If you choose black plus two spot colors, Publisher changes only those objects that exactly match the second spot color to 100 percent of the second spot color, and all other colors to tints of the first spot color. However, you can manually apply the second spot color to objects in the publication.
