OFF: Selection in Excel Does Not Appear Highlighted, or Word Document Appears Gray (302767)

SYMPTOMS

When you select a cell in Excel, the active cell may be indicated only by the darkened row and column headings. The cell highlight shading may not appear. When you open a document in Word, the background of the document may appear to be gray.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the following conditions are true:
  1. Quicken 98 is installed.
  2. You start Quicken 98.
  3. You open or switch to an Excel file or Word document.
The behavior stops when you restart the computer. The behavior does not recur until you start Quicken 98.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, upgrade to Quicken 2001.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do not start Word or Excel either when Quicken 98 is running or after Quicken 98 has been started.

If this behavior has occurred, save the active files, and then restart the computer.
