OFF2001: Error Type 2 Appears When You Start Any Office 2001 Program After You Install SR-1 (302761)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Office 2001 Service Release 1 (SR-1), the following error message may appear when you attempt to start any of the Office 2001 programs:
The application "program name" has unexpectedly quit, because an error of type 2 occurred.

CAUSE

This error message can result from one of the following conditions:
  • An antivirus program was active when you installed Office 2001 SR-1.
  • One or more of the Office 2001 Preferences files may be damaged.
There may also be other conditions that can generate this error message.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this error message, remove and then reinstall Office 2001:
  1. Quit all programs, and then open the Macintosh HD:Microsoft Office 2001 folder.
  2. Drag the Office 2001 program icons from the folder to the Trash icon on the desktop.
  3. Reinstall the Office 2001 programs:
    1. Insert the Office 2001 CD into the drive.
    2. Double-click the CD icon that appears on the desktop.
    3. Drag the Office 2001 program icons from the CD folder to the Office 2001 folder.
    4. Remove the Office 2001 CD.
  4. Start the Office 2001 program that generated the error, and then quit the program as soon as a document appears on the screen.
  5. Make certain the the SR-1 download is available on the system, and then restart the system while the extensions are temporarily turned off:
    1. Quit all open programs.
    2. On the Special menu, click Restart, and then hold down the SHIFT key while the computer starts.
    3. Release the SHIFT key when "Welcome to Mac OS Extensions Off" appears.

      This procedure turns off the extensions only temporarily. To turn the extensions on again, restart the computer without holding any keys down.
  6. Reinstall the Office SR-1 Installer, and then restart the computer to turn on the extensions.
