SUMMARY

This article describes how to change the slide or handout master in PowerPoint 2001 for Macintosh.

Modifying the Master allows you to set a new default for layout and formatting of objects on slides, handouts, notes, and outlines.

MORE INFORMATION

The steps that follow tell you how to modify the Slide Master. However, you can use the steps to modify any of the available views by selecting a different Master in Step 2.

To modify the Slide Master:
  1. Start PowerPoint 2001. On the File menu, click New Presentation, and then click Cancel.
  2. On the View menu, point to Master, and then click Slide Master. (You can also click the Handout Master from this menu.)
  3. Make any changes to the font or to the placement of text.

Note that any changes that you make to the Notes Page are not applied if the design layout is applied over a different design layout.
  4. On the File menu, click Save As.
  5. Type Blank Presentation in the Name box, and then click Design Template in the Format box.
  6. Click Macintosh HD on the drop-down menu at the top of the dialog box, click Microsoft Office 2001, and then click Templates.
  7. Click Save, and then quit PowerPoint.
In the Project Gallery, the PowerPoint Presentation icon appears as the new default presentation. However, this default is available only from the Project Gallery. If you click New Presentation on the File menu, or if you use any other template, the Notes Master uses the styles that are set up in the original default presentation.
