OFF2001: Office 2001 Programs Do Not Start from Microsoft Office Manager Menu (302619)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start programs from the Microsoft Office Manager menu, the Microsoft Office 2001 programs may not start as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions are true:
  • The version of the Microsoft Office Manager (MOM) is not appropriate for the version of Office that is installed on your computer.

    -or-
  • The Preference file has been damaged.

    -or-
  • MOM has not been updated for the version of Office that is installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use any of the following methods.

Method 1

Verify that you have the correct version of MOM for the version of Office installed. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Microsoft Office Manager icon on the Apple menu bar. Click About Office Manager in the drop-down list.

    This tells you whether you are using MOM for Microsoft Office 98 or Office 2001.
  2. If the version is for Office 98, download the MOM for Office 2001. To do this, browse to the following Microsoft Web site:

Method 2

Remove the Office Manager Preferences file from the Preferences folder in the System folder, and then restart the computer. A new preference file is created with default values.

Method 3

If you have the correct version of the MOM, you can edit the path for each of the programs listed in the Office Manager. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Microsoft Office Manager icon on the Apple menu bar.
  2. Click Customize.

    This opens the Office Manager Settings dialog box.
  3. Under Menu and Quick Launch Items, click the program that you want to fix.
  4. Click the Edit button.
  5. Click the Change button.
  6. Navigate to the installed location on your computer for that program. Select the program name, and then click Choose.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Repeat steps 3 through 7 for each program listed in MOM.
  9. Close the Office Manager Settings dialog box.
  10. Click Microsoft Office Manager, and then start the program.
