SYMPTOMS

When you run the 3D Flying Objects screen saver that displays the Windows XP flag, the Windows XP flag logo may seem to be "frozen" in the middle of the screen for the length of time that the screen saver is active. However, as soon as you make the screen saver inactive, you are able to return to the desktop.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when you use a screen resolution setting of "1600x1200", a 32-bit color-quality setting with either a G200 or G300 Direct 3D capable video adapter, and you have adjusted the screen saver display settings to disable 3D hardware rendering in Screen Saver mode.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, change the screen resolution setting to another setting other than "1600x1200", or change the color-quality setting to another setting other than "Highest (32-bit setting)".

These settings can be adjusted on the Settings tab on the Display Properties dialog box (in Control Panel, double-click Display).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
