IIS 4.0 Custom Error Settings Are Set to Default Value During Site Unmapping (302447)

SYMPTOMS

The Custom Error settings in Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) revert to the default value when the customer tries to unmap and map Site Server Personalization and Membership.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a recursive deletion of the metabase key that contains the information occurs, and the custom errors are removed.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, reconfigure the IIS custom errors after the site is remapped.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Site Server service pack that contains this hotfix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Site Server 3.0.

The hotfix deletes only those custom errors that the mapping process adds, only if those custom errors are not changed after the server is mapped.
