  • Microsoft Office 2000 Developer

This article was previously published under Q302415

SYMPTOMS

When you install the Workflow Services for SQL Server component from Microsoft Office XP Developer on a computer that has the Microsoft Access Workflow Designer Server that was installed by Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Tools version 1.5, you receive the following message:

Setup has detected a previous version of the Workflow Designer on this computer. To save existing applications and templates when you install Microsoft Office XP Developer, you must first run the Access Workflow Designer Uninstall Patch as described in the "Installation" section of the Readme.htm file and then uninstall the previous version. Setup will then be able to successfully migrate any existing applications and templates.

Please run the Access Workflow Designer Uninstall Patch before uninstalling and then return to the Microsoft Office XP Developer Setup.

However, in "Section 4.3 Workflow for SQL Server" of the Readme.htm file, the sixth bulleted item, Workflow applications created using Office Developer version 9.5 and version 9.5 with Service Release 1, does not mention an "Access Workflow Designer Uninstall Patch." It states the following:

When you uninstall these versions, the modSystem database, which contains information about your applications and your templates, is removed. Therefore, any existing templates stored in the modSystem database are deleted.

To prevent the loss of data, install the Office Developer version 9.5 Service Release 2 patch.

CAUSE

The update is not named the "Access Workflow Designer Uninstall Patch" as the error states. This patch is part of the Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Service Pack 2 release.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use one of the following methods:
  • Install Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Service Pack 2. After you apply the Service Pack, the removal of Microsoft Access Workflow Designer Server will detach the modSystem database from SQL Server but not delete the modSystem database from your system.
  • Using the Team Solutions Manager, save the templates to template files. To do so, follow these steps:
    1. Open the Team Solutions Manager.
    2. Click the Templates tab, and then click Export to File. This will save your template to a template file (*.tpl). At this point, you can remove the Access Workflow Designer components.
    3. Import the templates from the .tpl files after you install Office XP Developer.
