PRB: Published Posting Becomes Offline When the Checked-Out Version Is Waiting for Moderator Approval (302288)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 SP1
  • NCompass Resolution 4.0

This article was previously published under Q302288

SYMPTOMS

When a previously published posting is modified and not yet approved (for example, if you change the Display Name property of the posting), the posting is no longer available on the live site. However, if a previously published page is modified and not yet approved, you can view the page on the live site.

CAUSE

Display Name is a posting-level property (instead of a page-level property). Because postings do not have revisions, only one version of the posting can exist at a time. In this case, because the modified posting has not been approved, the posting cannot be viewed in Live mode, which only shows published postings.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The same behavior is not observed in modified pages because pages have revisions. When a user tries to open the page, the user sees the previously published version instead of the newly modified version that is still waiting for moderator approval.

The same problem occurs if other posting-level properties such as Publishing Date and Expiry Date are modified.
