The Computer Account Object Is Not Created in the Specified Organizational Unit During an Unattended Installation of Windows 2000 (302158)

SYMPTOMS

During an unattended installation of Windows 2000, if you use the MachineObjectOU entry in the Unattend.txt file to add a computer account to a specific organizational unit, the computer object is not created in the organizational unit that you specified.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if a computer account with the same name already exists in another organizational unit. In this situation, the computer account that you want to add is not created in the organizational unit that you specified in the MachineObjectOU entry of the Unattend.txt file. As a result, the computer account is not moved to the organizational unit that is specified in the MachineObjectOU entry when the computer joins the domain.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack SP3.
