Cluster Service Receives Error 1024 with SNMP Installed with SQL Server 7.0 (301964)

SYMPTOMS

During a Move Group or Failover operation in Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 on Windows 2000 Advance Server running SNMP, event ID 1024 is posted:
Event ID: 1024
The registry checkpoint for cluster resource "virtual SQL name" SQL server 7 could not be restored.
The resource may not function correctly.

CAUSE

The registry key for that resource is in use. More specifically, the key is still open by the RegRestoreKey function and returns ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
