MOM Server Components Do Not Run on a Domain Controller (301958)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q301958

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000 on a domain controller (DC), you may receive the following error message:
McsMtsInstaller (CreateRoleMembership)
Error: 1013
User ID for user role is not valid

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because MOM 2000 Data Access Server/Consolidator-Agent Manager server roles cannot be installed on a DC. MOM 2000 Setup is designed so that you cannot install MOM on a DC if you choose either the Typical or the Express installation. This is also true for the MOM database server.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

IMPORTANT: Do not promote a MOM-based server computer to a DC after Setup finishes.

For related information, please see the MOM release notes that are typically located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Operations Manager 2000\Onepoint\Doc folder.
