The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac
This article was previously published under Q301931 SYMPTOMS
When you insert a user-defined function in a cell, the cell returns a #VALUE error.
CAUSE
This problem may occur when you click Function on the Insert menu, select User Defined as the Function category, and select a user-defined function in the Function name list.
The Paste Function dialog box may not display any arguments, nor anyplace to type the required arguments. When you click OK, you receive the following message:
This function takes no arguments.
This may not be true, and if you click OK, the result in the cell is a #VALUE error.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, download and install the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 file. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site: WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, type the function manually, along with the required arguments. Or, if you inserted the function from the Paste Function dialog box, edit the inserted function in the cell to include the needed arguments.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac Service Release 1.
