The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q301607

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to overwrite a file in a Web, Microsoft FrontPage may stop responding (hang), and then you receive the following Winsock error message:
WSAECONNRESET (10054) Connection reset by peer.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the meta information in the current Web has been corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, rename the file that you are attempting to overwrite, and then delete the old meta information that is contained in the _vt-i_cnf directory of the Web.

To rename a file, follow these steps:
  1. Start Windows Explorer.
  2. Click the file or folder that you want to rename.
  3. On the File menu, click Rename.
  4. Type the new name, and then press ENTER.

WORKAROUND

Meta information can supply special instructions to a Web browser, such as an expiration date or a display-refresh value.
