Clip2002: "Delete From Unclassified Clips"' Does Not Delete Clip (301502)

RESOLUTION

Clips appear in the Unclassified Clips collection because they are in the root directory of a drive or because you removed them from some other collection. The best solution is to move the clips to an appropriate directory on your hard disk and reimport them.

NOTE: If you don't need the clip in Clip Organizer, right-click the clip, and then click Delete from Clip Organizer. Clip Organizer deletes the clip from all collections that include it.

1. If your files are located in the root directory (that is, if they are not contained in a folder, but are in the main directory of one of your hard disks, such as C:\filename), move the files into a different directory. You can use Windows Explorer to do this.
2. Re-import the clips. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. On the File menu, point to Add Clips to Organizer, and then click On My Own.
   2. Navigate to the folder that contains your clips.
   3. Click Add To and select the collection to which you want to add the clips. Or, click New to create a new collection.
   4. Click Add.
3. Move the unclassified clips to the new collection. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Right-click the clip in the Unclassified Clips collection, and then click Move to Collection on the shortcut menu.
   2. Select the collection to which you want to move the clip, and then click OK.
4. Delete the clips from the Unclassified Clips collection. The thumbnails in the Unclassified Clips collection that correspond to the files that you moved in step 1 have a yellow "X" in the left corner. This indicates the source file cannot be found in its old location.
   
   To delete the clips, right-click each clip in the Unclassified Clips collection, and then click Delete from Unclassified Clips.
5. You can also delete any other clips from the Unclassified Clips collection, as long as you have added the same clips to a different collection as in step 2.

An alternate workaround is to move the clip from the Unclassified Clips collection to another collection, and then use the Delete from Unclassified Clips command. The disadvantage of this workaround is that auto-import may import the clip back into Unclassified Clips at a later time, unless you move the clip from the root directory of your hard disk.

NOTE: You can always use the Delete from Clip Organizer command without moving the clip.
