FP98: "Cannot Create Folder" Error Message When You Attempt to Apply a Theme to a Subweb (301434)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to apply a theme to a Microsoft FrontPage subweb, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Server error: Cannot create folder drive:\inetpub\wwwroot\folder\_theme_vti_cnf

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Microsoft Windows SYSTEM account has insufficient security permissions to create the Theme folders in your FrontPage Web.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, uninstall and then reinstall the FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE). To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to the server computer as Administrator.
  2. Start FrontPage Server Administrator.
  3. In the FrontPage Server Administrator dialog box, select the server or port that you want (for example, Default Web Site) in the Select server or port list, click Uninstall, and then click OK.
  4. On the Uninstall completed successfully message that appears, click OK.
  5. Click Install.
  6. In the Configure Server Type dialog box, click Microsoft Internet Information Server in the Server type list, and then click OK.
  7. In the Confirmation Dialog dialog box, click OK.
  8. In the Administrator Setup for Microsoft Internet Information Server dialog box, type the account name that you want (for example, Administrator) in the Name box, and then click OK.
  9. On the Install completed successfully message that appears, click OK, and then click Close.
