SYMPTOMS

If you start Outlook 2001 for Mac in offline mode and attempt to synchronize with the Microsoft Exchange Server by using the Macintosh Operating System X (Mac OS X), offline synchronization does not work.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, establish your dial-up connection to the server first, connect to the online mailbox, and then synchronize with your offline set of folders.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

A Connection Status dialog box, often referred to as a "striped barber pole,", can appear and you may receive the following error message in addition to a connection failure:
Synchronization with the offline folder file could not be completed. The information store could not be opened.
