OL2001: The Euro Symbols in Tasks Become Question Marks After You Migrate (301132)

SYMPTOMS

If you previously created a task by using Microsoft Outlook Exchange Server Edition 8.2.2 or an earlier version of Microsoft Outlook that contain references to the euro symbol, the characters appear as question marks (?) when you migrate tasks with Outlook 2001 for Mac.

WORKAROUND

Use one the following two methods to work around this problem:
  • Replace the question marks in the affected tasks with euro symbols.

    -or

  • Use the previous version of Outlook to export a Schedule+ Interchange file, and then import the file to Outlook 2001 for Mac. To do this:

    1. Start the Outlook 8.x installation.
    2. On the Outlook toolbar, click Show the Calendar.
    3. On the File menu, click Export, and then click Outlook Calendar Interchange.
    4. In Export Outlook Calendar Interchange, browse to a location for the exported file.
    5. Type a descriptive name for the exported file, and then click OK.
    6. After the interchange file is created, start Outlook 2001 for Mac.
    7. On the File menu, click Import and Export, and then click Import from a Schedule+ Interchange File.
    8. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This character problem occurs specifically when you migrate from the previous client during the first run phase of Outlook.

The euro symbol appears correctly in tasks that are converted from a Schedule + Interchange file correctly in messages and appointments.
