SYMPTOMS

When you configure Log Shipping through the SQL Server Enterprise Manager Database Maintenance Plan wizard, if you select NORECOVERY mode in the Add Destination Database dialog box, the database is loaded in STANDBY mode.

The recovery status of this database is reverted to NORECOVERY after the first transaction log backup is applied by the Log Shipping schedule.

WORKAROUND

The database recovery status is changed to LOADING after the application of the first transaction log backup. No action is required by the user.

MORE INFORMATION

If you require the database to be in a NORECOVERY state (on the secondary server) before the application of the first transaction log backup, use these steps:
  1. Perform a complete database backup of the source database on the primary server.
  2. Restore this complete backup on the secondary server in NORECOVERY state.
  3. Select the Use Existing Database option in the Add Destination Database dialog box when you set up Log Shipping.
