XGEN: Move Mailbox Returns E_UNEXPECTED When COM Is Initialized as Multithreaded (301013)

SYMPTOMS

If the Move Mailbox function is called from a program that initializes Component Object Model (COM) by using CoInitializeEx(NULL,COINIT_MULTITHREADED), the call may fail and return E_UNEXPECTED.

The following error message may also be logged in the Application event log:
Error: An unexpected, unknown error has occurred.

MAPI or an unspecified service provider.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because CDOEXM cannot initialize COM as multithreaded when the Move Mailbox application programming interface (API) is being called.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.
