ACPI Power and Sleep Buttons Do Not Work (300889)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q300889

SYMPTOMS

If your Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) compliant computer is in Standby mode, and you press the ACPI POWER button, it may shut down instead of waking up.

Additionally, if the computer is in Standby mode, and you press the ACPI SLEEP button, it may wake up, and then immediately re-enter Sleep mode.

Note that this problem occurs only if the computer is sent into Standby mode by using the ACPI SLEEP button. It does not occur if the computer is sent into Standby mode when you click Shutdown from the Start menu, and then click Standby.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the BIOS allows you to configure the Sleep state as S1 or S3.
