OFF2001: Black and White Are Reversed When You Save File as a Web Page or Graphic (300875)

  • Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2001 for Macintosh
  • Microsoft Word 2001 for Macintosh

This article was previously published under Q300875

SYMPTOMS

When you save a Word document, an Excel workbook, or a PowerPoint presentation as a Web page, or if you save a PowerPoint presentation as a GIF or a PNG formatted picture, the colors black and white may be reversed for certain objects or, in the case of PowerPoint, for entire slides.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the export filters for Office 2001 exchange the end color files in the color table that is created for a GIF or a PNG picture. A color table has white as the first item and black as the last item. When an image is saved as a graphic that supports color tables, like GIF or PNG, the end colors exchange places in the file, causing the reversal of the two colors in the images.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, download and install the Microsoft Office 2001 Service Release 1 file. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

STATUS
