The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional

This article was previously published under Q300788

SYMPTOMS

Shares that are no longer available on the network may be displayed in My Network Places. When a computer that shares a resource is removed from the network, the entries in My Network Places may remain.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the operating system has an "age out" period for these resources. The age out period is 48 hours. After 48 hours, the share is not displayed in My Network Places.
