Requirements

To use Integrated Windows authentication with OWA and Exchange Server 5.5, Exchange Server 5.5 and Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0 or Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0 must be installed on the same computer. If Exchange Server 5.5 and Internet Information Server 4.0 or Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0 are installed on different computers, use Basic authentication. Configure Integrated Windows Authentication for OWA in Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0

To configure Integrated Windows authentication for OWA in Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Services Manager.
  2. Expand ServerName, right-click the virtual server where OWA is installed (for example, Default Web Site), and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Directory Security tab.
  4. Under Anonymous access and authentication control, click Edit.
  5. Click to select the Anonymous access check box, and then click Edit.
  6. Verify that IUSR_ComputerName appears in the Username box, where ComputerName is the name of the computer, and then click OK.
  7. Click to clear the Basic authentication (password is sent in clear text) check box.
  8. Click to select the Digest authentication for Windows domain servers check box, click to select the Integrated Windows authentication check box, and then click OK.
  9. If the Inheritance Overrides dialog box is displayed, click Select All, and then click OK.
  10. Click OK, and then close the Internet Information Services snap-in.

Configure Integrated Windows Authentication for OWA in Internet Information Server 4.0

To configure Integrated Windows (or Windows NT Challenge/Response) authentication for OWA in Internet Information Server 4.0:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack, point to Microsoft Internet Information Services, and then click Internet Services Manager.
  2. Expand ServerName, right-click the virtual server where OWA is installed (for example, Default Web Site), and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Directory Security tab.
  4. Under Anonymous access and authentication control, click Edit.
  5. Click to select the Anonymous access check box, and then click Edit.
