Windows Services for UNIX. Windows Services for UNIX 3.0 provides a full
range of cross-platform services that help you integrate Windows into your
existing UNIX environments. Because the Interix subsystem technology is
built in, Windows Services for UNIX 3.0 provides platform interoperability and
application migration components in one fully integrated and supported product
from Microsoft. Back to the
topWarnings Before you start the installation procedure, read
the following warnings:
- To complete the installation, you must be logged on to the
computer as a member of the Administrators group.
- Remove any existing third-party Network File System (NFS),
Telnet, or similar software before you install Windows Services for
UNIX.
- If you are upgrading Windows NT Services for UNIX Add-On
Pack version 1.0, by default all installed components will be upgraded. If you choose not to upgrade a component, that component will be removed during the installation procedure.
- If your computer is running Microsoft Windows NT Server or Windows
2000 Server, Server for NFS is also installed when you perform the standard
installation. If your computer is a domain controller, Server for NFS
Authentication is also installed when you perform the standard installation.

topInstall Windows Services for UNIX To install Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX, follow these
steps:
- Click Start, point to
Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove
Programs.
- In the left pane, click Add New Programs,
and then in the right pane, click CD or Floppy.
- Insert the Windows Services for UNIX CD into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
drive, and then follow the instructions on the screen until you are
prompted to perform a Standard installation or a Customized installation.
- To perform the installation of Windows Services for UNIX
components with the default configuration, click Standard
installation.
If you want to specify a different set of
components or a different installation location, click Customized
installation.
Note If you are upgrading Windows NT Services for UNIX Add-On Pack
1.0, you will not be given this option. In this case, go to step 7. - If you are customizing your installation, click the icon
next to each component that you want to install, and then click the appropriate
option. When you are finished selecting the components that you want to
install, click Next.
Note: After you have installed Windows Services for UNIX, you can
install additional components or remove installed components. - Continue to follow the instructions on the screen to finish
the installation process.
