SUMMARY

This article describes the correct format for X.400 one-off addresses.

MORE INFORMATION

To send a message to an X.400 one-off address that exists in Active Directory as a local mailbox, the address must be in the following format to be delivered correctly; specifically, the address must contain the trailing semicolon before the closing bracket:

[X400:C=US;A= ;P=MYORG;S=LastUserName;G=FirstUserName;]

An address without the semicolons, such as the following address

[X400:C=US;A= ;P=MYORG;S=LastUserName;G=FirstUserName]

causes the server to generate a non-delivery report (NDR) that is similar to the following:

The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to.
Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.
