Custom Database-Only Installation Installs Unnecessary User Groups (300314)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q300314

SYMPTOMS

Although you specify installation of only the database when you are performing a Custom installation of Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM), you may find that all of the default MOM User Groups are created.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

In a database-only installation, the only group that the server needs is the OnePointOp Reporting group. However, Microsoft recommends that you do not delete the other groups, even though they are not used in a database-only installation.

Setup prompts you for both a Consolidator Agent Manager password and a Data Access Service (DAS) password. A database-only installation of MOM uses only the DAS password (for the DAS locator service). The Consolidator Agent Manager password is not necessary because no Consolidator will be running on this computer. Microsoft recommends that you use the same account for both the Consolidator Agent Manager and the DAS.
