Works Suite 2000: Error Message During Setup: Cannot Move Calendar File C:\Program Files\Mswkscal.wcd (300232)

SYMPTOMS
When you try to install Works Suite 2000, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Setup cannot move Calendar file C:\Program Files\mswkscal.wcd. RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Microsoft Windows 98WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk. - Start Windows Explorer.
- Locte the following folder, C:\Windows\Installer.
- Right-click the folder, and then click Delete.
- When you receive the confirmation message, click Yes.
- Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
- In the Drives box, click the disk where Works Suite 2000 is installed (typically C), and then click OK.
- On the Disk Cleanup tab, click to select the following check boxes:
- Temporary Internet Files
- Recycle Bin
- Temporary Files
- Click OK.
When you receive the confirmation message, click Yes. - Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Click My Computer in the left pane.
- On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File.
- In the Export Registry File dialog box, click Desktop in the Save in box.
- In the File name box, name the file, and then click Save.
- Locate each of the following registry keys:
Note Not all of the keys may appear on your computer.- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer
- Right-click the key, and then click Delete.
When the confirmation message appears, click Yes. - On the Registry menu, click Exit.
- Restart your computer in MS-DOS mode.
- At the command prompt, type CD SYSTEM, and then press ENTER.
- At the command prompt, type REN MSI.DLL MSI.OLD, and then press ENTER.
Note Some of these files may not be on your system. - Repeat step 20 to rename each of the following files.
- MSIEXEC.EXE
- MSIHND.DLL
- CABINET.DLL
- MSPATCHA.DLL
- SHFOLDER.DLL
- IMAGEHLP.DLL
- RICHED20.DLL
- MSLS3.DLL
- USP10.DLL
- MSIINST.EXE
- INSTMSI.MSI
- At the command prompt, type WIN, and then press ENTER.
- Copy the Instmsia.exe file from Disk 4 of the Microsoft Works Suite 2000 to C:\Windows\System.
- Restart your computer in Safe Mode.
- Insert Disk 1 of the Works Suite 2000.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Install to install Works Suite 2000.
Method 2: Microsoft Windows Millennium EditionWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk. - Start Windows Explorer.
- Locate the following folder: C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Installer.
- Right-click the folder, and then click Delete.
When you receive the confirmation message, click Yes. - Loate the following folder: C:\Windows\Temp.
- On the Edit menu, click Select All, and then press DELETE.
When you receive the confirmation message, click Yes. - Follow steps 9 through 28 of Method 1.
