XCON: Cannot Send Messages with MIME Content in Exchange 2000 (299844)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5

This article was previously published under Q299844

SYMPTOMS

If the Internet Mail Service content type for attachments is plain text in Exchange Server 5.5, users can send messages that have HTML encoding by using Internet Mail Service. However, if you set the content type for MIME messages to plain text in Exchange 2000, the message is sent as plain text and all HTML encoding is removed.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue in Exchange 2000, create a separate filter for each domain that must have a specific content type. For example, to configure your default domain to send messages as HTML, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.
  2. Double-click Global Settings, and then click Internet Message Formats.
  3. In the Details pane, right-click the domain, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Message Format tab, and then configure the settings for the domain.
NOTE: If you want to configure your domain to receive plain text messages, right-click the Internet Message Formats object, and then click New. You can then set the content type for each domain.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
