How To Install Windows 2000 SP2 on an Application Center 2000 Cluster (299834)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Application Center 2000

This article was previously published under Q299834

SUMMARY

This article provides the recommended procedure for installing Windows 2000 Service Pack (SP) 2 on Application Center 2000 clusters.

MORE INFORMATION

All members of a cluster should have the same service pack configuration. This is because security fixes and hotfixes may react differently on computers that do not have the same service packs installed. So, if you install Windows SP2 on one member, all other members should also be upgraded to SP2.

How to Apply Windows 2000 SP2 to a Cluster

  1. Select a member server to act as temporary cluster controller.
  2. Request a full synchronization for that member.
  3. Turn off Automatic synchronization for the cluster.
  4. Remove the selected server from the cluster.
  5. Apply SP2 and restart the selected server.
  6. Re-add the selected member to the cluster.
  7. Promote the selected server into the cluster controller role.
  8. Repeat steps 4-6 for each of the other servers in the cluster.
  9. After all cluster members are running with SP2, promote the server that was the original cluster controller back into the cluster controller role.
  10. Turn Automatic synchronization back on.
