SYMPTOMS

If you do not have Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) on your Microsoft Windows 2000 Server computer, you cannot install Workflow Services for SQL Server. On the Options screen of Microsoft Office XP Developer Setup, you cannot click to select Workflow Services for SQL Server, and a red X appears next to this option. Additionally, the following message is displayed in the Feature Description window:
The following applications, service packs, or features are prerequisites for installing Microsoft Office Developer, but were not found. Once all requirements are met, please restart Microsoft Office Developer setup. For more information about prerequisites, see the readme.htm.

FrontPage Server Extensions

CAUSE

Workflow Services for SQL Server requires FrontPage Server Extensions. FrontPage Server Extensions is installed with Internet Information Services.

RESOLUTION

Install Internet Information Services. Then, restart Microsoft Office XP Developer Setup. You can now install Workflow Services for SQL Server.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. On a Windows 2000 Server computer, install Windows 2000 SP1, Microsoft Office XP, and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard. During SQL Server 2000 installation, install SQL Server 2000 to the local computer. Use Windows Authentication, and choose a valid domain user account for the MSSQLServer and SQLServerAgent services.
  2. Remove Internet Information Services (IIS). To do so, in Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs, click Add/Remove Windows Components, and then click to clear IIS.
  3. Start Microsoft Office XP Developer Setup.
  4. Install Windows Component updates as required.
  5. Click to select Workflow Services for SQL Server.

    Note that you receive the message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
