OL2002: Error Message that the 'Outlook /cleanreminders' File Cannot Be Found (299609)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

This article was previously published under Q299609

SYMPTOMS

When you use a command-line switch to control what happens when you start Microsoft Outlook, you may receive the following error message:
Cannot find the file "Outlook /cleanreminders" (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the command-line switch is included in the path and enclosed within opening and closing quotation marks, or because the Outlook.exe file is not in the current path.

MORE INFORMATION

Use the following steps to use command-line switches:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type Outlook /cleanreminders.

NOTE: There is a space character between Outlook and the forward slash (/).
  3. Click OK.
If you still receive the error message described in the "Symptoms" section, use the following alternate steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Click the Browse button, and then locate Outlook.exe file, which is normally at the following location:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10

  3. Double-click the Outlook.exe file to obtain the complete path and file name in the Run box.
  4. Place your cursor after the quotation mark, type a space, and then type the command-line switch.
