OL2001: A Server in a Remote WAN Domain Is Unreachable (299551)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q299551

SYMPTOMS

In a wide area network (WAN) configuration, Outlook 2001 for Mac users cannot connect to Microsoft Exchange Server accounts in a domain other than their home domain.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the domain where the unreachable Exchange Server is located is not in the Additional Search Domains configuration of the Apple Macintosh operating system (Mac OS) Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) settings.

MORE INFORMATION

In most cases where Microsoft Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) is implemented, Microsoft Outlook for Windows clients can connect to the remote domain.

Use the following steps to set the Additional Search Domains for Mac OS TCP/IP:
  1. On the Apple menu, click Control Panels, and then click TCP/IP.
  2. In Additional Search Domains, enter the fully-qualified name of the remote domain.
  3. Close the TCP/IP dialog box, and then click Save to accept the new configuration.
