OL2002: The Hotmail Data File Is Not Deleted When You Delete a Hotmail Profile (299412)

SYMPTOMS

When you delete a profile that contains a Hotmail account, the Data file (.pst file) that is associated with the Hotmail account is not automatically deleted.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, manually delete the Data file (.pst file) from your hard disk. Hotmail Data files are located in the following default locations:
  • For computers that are running Microsoft Windows 2000:

    C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

  • For computers that are running Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me):

    C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

  • The following is the naming syntax for Hotmail Data files:

    <ProfileName>Hotmail-########.pst

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
