SYMPTOMS

If you use the Export as Web Page command to save a Microsoft Publisher 2002 Web page, and the page contains complex script that reads from right to left, you cannot select the right-to-left script in your Web page. Either nothing is selected, or large areas of the page are selected. You cannot copy or paste this script.

NOTE: If you do not have the Export as Web Page command listed under the File menu in Publisher 2002, the information in this article does not apply to your Web page. For more information about the Export as Web Page command and how to obtain the Publisher 2002 public update, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

299040 PUB2002: Overview of the Publisher 2002 Public Update: June 14, 2001

CAUSE

The right-to-left complex script is being displayed as a picture instead of text.

Publisher 2002 requires high-fidelity HTML code to display right-to-left complex script in a Web page. Because the Export as Web Page command strips this code to reduce file size, the right-to-left complex script must be displayed as a picture.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, save your publication as a high-fidelity Web page. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. In the Save as Type list, select one of the following file types:
    • Web Page (*.htm;*.html)
    • Web Archive (*.mht;*.mhtml)
  3. Name the file and then click Save.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
