This article was previously published under Q299060 SYMPTOMS When you open, close, edit, or save a picture in any of the programs that are listed in the "Applies to" section, you may
receive an Illegal Operation error message. When you click the Details button,
you may receive one of the following error messages: PIP caused a
general protection fault in module unknown. PIP caused an invalid page fault in module
unknown. Fatal Exception 0E has occured at
xxxx:xxxxxxxx. The current application will be terminated. Note In this error message, x
equals a memory address. CAUSE This behavior may occur if any of the following conditions
are true:
- The color palette for your display is set to "True Color
(32-bit)".
- The video card drivers on your system are
outdated.
- A Terminate-and-Stay-Resident program (TSR) is running that
is incompatible with your Picture It! program or is causing your
computer to run low on system resources.
RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, use the following steps in the order that they appear. Change your Color Palette Settings- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Display.
- Click the Settings tab.
- In the Color Palette box or the Colors box, click High Color (16 bit).
- Click OK.
If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
Quit Unnecessary Programs- Quit all unnecessary programs.
To do so, for each program
on the task bar, right-click the program, and then click Close. - Quit programs that are running in the background. To so,
press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to start the Task Manager.
Note Do not quit Explorer or Systray. - In the Task Manager, click to select each program in the
list, and then click End Task.
Install the Latest Video Driver You may be able to resolve this issue by downloading and
installing the latest video driver available for your video adapter. Contact
your video adapter manufacturer for information about how to obtain and install
the latest video driver for your video adapter.

Test to see if the issue is resolved. If the issue
continues to occur, continue to the next method. Reduce Graphics Hardware Acceleration To reduce graphics hardware acceleration:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click System.
- Click the Performance tab, and then click Graphics.
- Move the Hardware Acceleration slider one notch to the left of the current setting.
- Click OK, and then click Close.
- When you receive the prompt to restart the computer, click Yes.
- Test to find out if the issue is resolved.
If the
issue continues to occur, repeat steps 1 through 6 until you reach the None
setting or the issue is resolved. If the Hardware Acceleration slider is at the None setting and
the issue is not resolved, move the slider back to the original setting.
