SideWinder: Error Message: An Internal Error Has Occurred That May Be Due to Low System Resources (299039)

SYMPTOMS

After you add a Microsoft SideWinder Precision 2 joystick or a Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel USB to your computer, you may receive the following error message:
An internal error has occurred that may be due to low system resources.

CAUSE

This error can occur when the controller is detected as a generic HID-compliant game controller.

RESOLUTION

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

  2. In Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Microsoft Windows 95, and Microsoft Windows 98, check the listings under Sound, video and game controllers on the Device Manager tab.

    In Windows 2000, click Device Manager on the Hardware tab, and then check the listings under Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Click HID-complaint game controller, and then press the DELETE key.
  4. Click OK to remove the device.
  5. In Windows 2000, on the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.

    In Windows Me, Microsoft Windows 95, and Microsoft Windows 98, click Refresh.

    Windows should find the controller, build the driver information database and install the correct driver properly.
If the above steps do not help, uninstall and then resinstall the Sidewinder Controller software. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Uninstall SideWinder Game Controller software:
    1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Hardware, point to SideWinder Game Controller Software <version>, point to SideWinder Force Feedback, and then click Uninstall SideWinder Game Controller Software <version>.
    2. Follow the instructions to uninstall the software from the computer.
  2. Reinstall the SideWinder Game Controller software.
