SUMMARY

This article describes how to set security on Web parts in the dashboard site.

MORE INFORMATION

The default dashboard site Web parts are stored in the Web Storage System and coordinators can set security on them. The only security that can be set at the Web part level is Deny access. When a user is denied access to a Web part, her or she does not see the Web part when he or she connects to the dashboard it is displayed in.

To deny access to a user or group, follow these steps:
  1. Open a Web folder to the workspace, and then open the Portal folder (note that this is a hidden folder).
  2. Locate the Web part you want to set security on.

Web parts are .vbs script files named after the Web part. Web parts for the Home dashboard reside in the root of the Portal folder. Web parts in the subdashboards reside in the subfolder that corresponds to the dashboard name. For example, if you want to deny access to the News Web part on the Home dashboard, you configure it on "start page news.vbs" in the Portal folder.
  3. Right-click the Web part script file, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Security tab, click the Deny button, and then select the user accounts you want to deny access to.
