UTF-8 Is Returned as the Default Character Set (298729)

SYMPTOMS

When you make a request to return the character set from any text body that has a character set that is not yet known, utf-8 is returned as the default character set.

CAUSE

In the Exchange component Collaboration Data Objects (CDO), MIMEOLE, an API that CDO uses for Mime content parsing, is finding UTF-8 in the text body parts of messages and making it the default character set that is returned.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 3.
