SUMMARY

This article describes how to back up and restore messages that are processed ("learned") when you use the Learning functionality to automatically forward messages to your wireless device.

MORE INFORMATION

When you use the Learning functionality in Outlook Mobile Manager, messages that meet specific criteria are automatically forwarded to your device. If you use Learning, you do not have to use the Rules functionality.

Because Learning requires that you mark a number of messages manually with Urgent or Non-Urgent priority in Outlook Mobile Manager before automatic forwarding can take place (200 urgent messages, 400 non-urgent messages), it is recommended that you back up your learned information so that you do not have to start over. To do so, after you mark the messages in your Inbox, click My E-mail, click Learning Options, and then click Learn Now to commit the selected messages to Learning. If you mark messages but do not click Learn Now, the messages are automatically learned every 24 hours. After messages have been learned, they cannot be individually "unlearned". If you want to start over with the Learning process, you must perform a bulk reset. To do so, click My E-mail, click Advanced, and then click Reset. When you click the Reset button, all learned information is removed from the folder; be careful not to click the Reset button randomly.

To use the Backup or Restore functionality, start Outlook Mobile Manager, click My E-mail, click Advanced, and then click either of the following buttons:
  • Back Up Learning: When you click this button, you are prompted to type the location of the backup file. The backup information is stored in a text file in the Outlook Mobile Manager folder by default, but you can store the information in a different location.
  • Restore Learning: When you click this button, you are prompted to type the location where you want to save information. If you type a file name, but you do not type a path, Outlook Mobile Manager checks the Outlook Mobile Manager folder for the file.
