Deployment Lab Scenarios
Windows 2000 Resource Kit Deployment Lab Scenarios document
solutions that provide example configurations showing the deployment of Windows
2000 technologies on an actual network simulating a large organization and the
Internet.
Troubleshooting
Using
Dcdiag and NetDiag in Windows 2000 to facilitate Domain Join and DC
Creation Describes the functionality that has been added to the
Domain Controller Diagnostics (Dcdiag.exe) and Network Diagnostics
(Netdiag.exe) tools included in Windows 2000. This new functionality verifies
the DNS infrastructure required for deploying the Windows 2000 Active Directory
service.
Troubleshooting
section (from the
Windows 2000 Resource Kit TCP/IP Core Networking Guide's - Chapter 6:Windows 2000 DNS)
Describes useful troubleshooting tools, provides DNS best
practices, lists useful procedures, and explains how to diagnose and solve
common DNS problems.
White Papers
Windows 2000 DNS White Paper This paper describes the Windows
2000 operating system Domain Naming System (DNS), including design,
implementation, and migration issues. It discusses how DNS is implemented in
Windows 2000, shows examples of DNS implementations, and describes the
architectural criteria that network architects and administrators should
consider when designing a DNS namespace for the Active Directory service to
provide reliable network naming services.
Windows 2000 Deployment Planning Guide The Deployment Planning
Guide provides important planning and technical product information to assist
teams in charge of deploying Windows 2000 Server and Windows 2000 Professional.
Free Resource Kit Chapters
These chapters from the Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit
and the Windows 2000 Server Resource Kit contain valuable information about
Active Directory and DNS.
Support WebCast: DNS in the Active Directory Tree
This WebCast addresses best practices and concepts regarding DNS
in and for Active Directory. This session covers potential configuration and
design issues, how to check to see that Active Directory is correctly
registering records in the DNS database, and some of the ways that an
incorrectly configured DNS can affect your Active Directory. To view this

Tools
Windows
2000 Active Directory Migration Tool The Active Directory
Migration Tool provides an easy, secure, and fast way to migrate to Windows
2000 Active Directory service. As a system administrator, you can use this tool
to diagnose any possible problems before starting migration operations to
Windows 2000 Server Active Directory. You can then use the task-based wizard to
migrate users, groups, and computers; set correct file permissions; and migrate
Microsoft Exchange Server mailboxes. The tool's reporting feature allows you to
assess the impact of the migration, both before and after move
operations.
Microsoft
DNSLint Tool DNSLint is a Microsoft Windows utility that helps
you to diagnose common DNS name resolution issues. This utility is available
for download from the Microsoft Download Center.
