This article describes how to manually remove a Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) agent from an agent computer.

You can manually remove (uninstall) an agent by removing the relevant program files and registry keys from the computer where the agent is installed:
  1. In the MOM Microsoft Management Console (MMC):
    1. Expand Configuration, and then click Agent Managers.
    2. Double-click the agent manager, and on the Managed Computer Rules tab, verify that the Managed Computer Rule for the agent has been removed.
  2. On the agent computer, stop the OnePoint service.
  3. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32), and then locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mission Critical Software\OnePoint\ key. Write down the directory paths for the following three registry values:
    • DataDir
    • MSInstallSubDir
    • TempDir
  4. Delete the following registry keys if they are present:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mission Critical Software\OnePoint

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\OnePoint

  5. Delete the following registry value if it is present:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP\Parameters\ExtensionAgents\MCSExtnAgent

    This key may contain Software\Mission Critical Software\OnePoint\SNMP. If you do not delete this value, you cannot delete the SNMPExtnAgent.dll file in the folder that is listed in the MSInstallSubDir registry value.

    IMPORTANT: Deleting these registry values disables any NetIQ administration products that are installed. You will need to reinstall the NetIQ products.
  6. Quit Registry Editor.
  7. Restart SNMP service.
  8. In Windows Explorer, locate and delete the three folders where the program was installed, if those folders are present. (Refer to the paths that you wrote down in Step 3.) However, do not delete the folder that is listed in the TempDir registry value; rather, delete the Mission Critical Software folder in this Temp directory.

The Momclean.exe utility is now available with the MOM 2005 Resource Kit. With this tool you can automate removal of the MOM agent and/or MOM server rolls.

Note This is a forced removal and is only recommended if the Add/Remove Programs option is not available.
