ASR Restore Procedure Does Not Succeed When You Specify Drive C as the Destination for the Backup File (298278)

SYMPTOMS

When you perform an Automated System Recovery (ASR) backup on a computer that runs Windows XP Professional, and you select drive C as the destination for the .bkf file, the ASR restore procedure may not succeed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because drive C is repartitioned during the ASR procedure. Repartitioning can cause the backup file to become corrupted and thus cause the ASR restore procedure to be unsuccessful.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, before you run ASR, make sure that the drive that you specify for the .bkf file is not the boot or system volume.
